1. What is the Language Explorer Competition?

The Language Explorer Competition is an annual online national event introducing language and linguistics knowledge to students in Malaysia. It targets primary, secondary, and pre-university levels, aiming to familiarize younger generations with Language and Computational Linguistics.

2. What are the benefits of participating in Language Explorer Competitions?

Language Explorer Competition program in Malaysia comprises four stages;

  1. Language Explorer Competition
  2. Malaysian Computational Linguistics Olympiad (MyCLO)
  3. National Training Camps
  4. International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL)

     

Secondary category winners advance to the Malaysian Computational Linguistics Olympiad (MyCLO) and Asia Pacific Linguistics Olympiad (APLO). Participants also get the chance to be trained by professionals in linguistics. MyCLO serves as a selection platform to identify the top eight students who will represent Malaysia at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL), which will be held in Taipei, Taiwan in July 2025.

3. If I continue as the teacher in charge at the same school for the Language Explorer Competition Competition in 2025, do I need to create a new ContestHub account, or can I use the existing one?

If your school participated in the Language Explorer Competition Competition in 2023 and you are still teaching at the same school, you do NOT need to create a new ContestHub account. You can use your existing account to register for the upcoming competition by login using the same username and password. Kindly update your profile account.

4. Our school is new to the Language Explorer Competition Competition, and we want to join. What do we need to do next?

Each school is required to appoint at least one Teacher-In-Charge (TIC) responsible for handling registration, payment, and overseeing the competition day. The designated teacher must have a ContestHub account to ensure our secretary is informed that you are the TIC representing your school. To be officially recognized as the TIC, please reach out to our customer support team using the phone number provided in FAQs 18.

5. How many teachers can be assigned as Teacher-In-Charge (TIC)?

For the Language Explorer Competition, our system allows up to three teachers in charge to be assigned. In cases where a school has more than three teachers, please feel free to reach out to our support team for assistance.

6. If I transfer to another school in 2025, do I need to create a new contesthub account?

To register your students, you must create a new account on ContestHub. If you register your students using a previous ContestHub account, we will assume that the students are from your previous school, and we will also assume that you are still a teacher there.

7. Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants required from each school in the Language Explorer Competition Competition?

We do not have any minimum or maximum requirements for registration, as we warmly welcome all schools to participate in our competition.

9. Who can participate in Language Explorer Competition competitions?

Language Explorer Competition competitions are open to students of all levels, from primary school to secondary school. There are different categories based on the students’ grade level for international schools, allowing a wide range of students to participate.

10. How can my students participate in Language Explorer Competition competitions?

Students have two registration options to join the Language Explorer Competition:

1. School Registration:
Students can register through their school, provided a designated teacher is appointed to manage and oversee their participation. The teacher will handle the registration process via www.contesthub.my. The registration fee for this option is RM40 per student.

2. Individual Registration:
Students can also register independently as individual candidates. In this case, the registration fee is RM60 per student.

11. Can non-Malaysian students participate in Language Explorer Competition competitions?

Yes, non-Malaysian students can participate in Language Explorer Competition competitions. The competitions are inclusive and open to all students studying in Malaysia, regardless of their nationality.

12. How to prepare my students for the Language Explorer Competition?

The Language Explorer Competition provides study materials and practice papers on their official website (https://myclo.my/study-guide/) to help students prepare.

13. What is the Language Explorer Competition's formats & scoring system for each question?

The Language Explorer Competition is conducted online via the Autoproctor system, featuring 5 subjective questions. Participants are allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer, with 20 points assigned for each question. The Autoproctor system activates from 10 am to 5 pm on the competition day, allowing students to answer at any time within this period. All participants must use a laptop, computer, or tablet with a stable internet connection.

14. Are there any prizes for winners of Language Explorer Competition competitions?

Yes, Language Explorer Competition awards certificates of participation to all students who take part in our competition. We also recognize top-performing students with prizes categorized as Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention, based on their marks.

15. Where can I purchase practice books for my students?
